Surat's AFO 2005 Report

I've posted my report of this past Friday's Panel OF DOOM over in the AnimeHELL Forum. It was in a different room than I originally thought, the time got shifted back an hour, and the DVD player didn't work! WAS I ABLE TO OVERCOME SUCH ADVERSITY? There's only one way to find out!

Aw man, denied the main room! I'm dreaming of the day I get to do a HELLshow in a mainroom. But I seriously doubt I'll ever get the mainroom at AKon or AnimeFEST or OniCon....

Oh well.

Doing an event in the big room can be a double-edged sword. What you're in a 1,500-seater cavern and not enough people show up to reach critical mass? I realize that this is rarely a problem with Hell, but you never know.

I like running events in medium-to-large panel rooms; I think the largest Dubs... drew about 200 people, at Anime Boston. I'd rather be in a small, standing-room-only venue than a large place where the crowd is all spread out.

I see your point, Mike. But I've only ever ran shows in small or mid-sized rooms. Alot of times it is standing room only and I've had cons threaten to shut down the show because people gather at the doorways and block the exits and then it becomes a safety issue. And my responce every time is put me in a bigger room.

I may never get my show popular enough to earn a main room, but I would love to try it once. Or maybe do a show at Ushicon in Austin, which ever comes first.
