Also reminding myself of the terrifically cool dubbing materials from the Fist of the North Star movie in my mitts including a D2 master videotape of the film as well! Neat having that of course (would've been sweeter if I had gotten Macek to sign 'em perhaps).
You should post about those. The Fist of the North Star movie is some Toei goodness. What did you with that D2 master tape?
I outta. It's in storage for the moment though, much of it appears to be cutting-room-floor type pieces from a trailer as well as the opening and end credits that were made for the US release by Streamline (many of these are in CFI Lab boxes). Much of it appears to be negatives or interpositives of sorts. This isn't counting also the audio reels of what I believe are the music and sound effects for the film as well, but I have yet to find a player to try them out on yet.
The D2 master I presume is just the movie in English on it, perhaps made to send to a cable network to broadcast or such. I still have it, in it's neat li'l big plastic case with a handle on it!
I'm completely taken by surprise by this. The man was way too young to be gone like this.
ReplyDeleteReason why I like this pic of him at his most youthful self, just getting out of school and thinking, "what to do with my life?"
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, it is rather sad that it happened at all, and at such a young age too.
ReplyDeleteThat's his Rolling Stone photo, right? Or that time he hosted Saturday Night Live.
ReplyDeleteNot sure really, I took it from Collection DX's podcast review of Robotech the Movie. I could replace it with a more current pic.
ReplyDeleteNaw, it's a good photo. My favorite Macek photos are of him with his big ol' mustache.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird to see this so soon after you posted about Megazone 23. It makes me think about Robotech: The Movie.
ReplyDeleteIt does, I noticed though someone has that movie up on YouTube as we speak, perhaps I should link that here for ol' time sake!
ReplyDeleteThis pic in particular does have that Billy Joel/Piano Man thing going for it.
Just updated the pic with one I found off Facebook which is a nice general look at his life through the years.
