You don't know Jack
Over at Let's Anime Dave's been talking about Anime on CED, one of the many dead formats from the late 70s and early 80s. Lucky for you, you don't need a Capacitance Electronic Disc System to watch the classic Jack & The Beanstalk. Like Pinocchio in Outer Space and Alakazam The Great this was one of those movies I saw as a kid that left a big impression on my young mind. I wonder now if it wasn't in part because I recognized the voices of Billie Lou Watt, Corinne Orr, and Jack Grimes. Mostly it was the strange imagery in Jack & The Beanstalk that stuck with me over the years. One of the great kiddie mindwarps to inflict on your favorite preteen.

PEELANDER IS FUN!!
I don't own any Peelander-Z CDs, but I had to have the Peelander-Z DVD. Which says more about my buying habits then any comment on Peelander-Z's music, honest. Because as much as Peelander-Z's music rocks it's their show that is the real kick. Ok, the truth is I've only seen one of their shows, but it was a damn good show. Because these guys are true showmen. And the DVD brings you all their maniac antics in an easy viewable format. A live show from Northsix in Brooklyn, NY, bonus videos and CHALLENGER-Z! The only thing better then the DVD is to actually go to a Peelander-Z show. So, go already!
You can learn more about Peelander-Z at Peelander-Z.com

Our Favorite Things
I never thought this would ever be released but somehow the folks at Other Cinema did it, and they did it right. Not only do you get almost 3 hours of Negativland's greatest hits, including the clip Gimme The Mermaid which confounded and confused the crowd at AWA a few years back, you also get a CD of Negativland's hits covered by a, "Gospel R & B Doo-Wop group." Break out your favorite audio editor and start cutting!
Now I know what you're thinking. "I saw that Mermaid thingy at Japanese Cartoon Hell, that was crap!" Ok, I'll admit, that wasn't Negativland at their best. If you're new to Negativland I suggest checking out Christianity is Stupid or the lawsuit inducing I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For with American Top 40's Casey Kasem, they're sure to please!
If you haven't already bought your own copy this is well worth the rental, you can find Our Favorite Things at both Blockbuster Online and Netflix and if it's not in your rental queue what are you waiting for? Do it now! Before the corporate media lawyers realize this is available and start sending out unmarked black trucks to haul these out to the desert and burn them. Hurry! Before it's too late!
