As predicted, COVID-19 isn't finished with us yet. This means beloved Toronto anime convention Anime North has to take yet another break and appear virtually instead of live and in person. This ALSO means that Anime Hell is going to be streaming freely once again! streaming afterword
hey gang, this is Dave, I just wanted to drop in and again say a big THANK YOU to everybody who dropped in to have a spankin' good time watching Anime Hell last Friday here at the facebooks! I was using OBS to stream the videos to Facebook, it's my first time doing this kind of thing and I appreciate everybody putting up with my ineptitude. I am probably going to re-run the set over at Twitch or some similar platform in a few weeks, so if you didn't get to catch it on Friday, don't fret. I'm hoping sooner rather than later we'll have this COVID-19 licked enough so that we can once again congregate in large groups and watch goofy videos together.

Right now we're in the midst of COVID-19 smacking civilization around and generally having its way with us, and that means economic disaster, stressed healthcare services, and the grim reality of daily rising casualty lists. On a smaller scale this means that Japanese animation conventions are getting canceled right and left.
Anime Central in Chicago was supposed to be happening May 15-17; it's been pushed to 2021. Anime North in Toronto was originally scheduled May 22-24, and has also been moved to May of next year. These two shows are longtime Anime Hell hosts, and obviously if the convention's not happening, then sadly, those Anime Hells aren't happening either. Project A-Kon, the host of Otaku Hell, has also been postponed until 2021.
We're all hoping that we get through this sooner rather than later, and once the dust settles we'll get back to amusing audiences the way we've always done. In the meantime we are investigating the possibility of doing some sort of streaming Hell show over the internets, so please stay tuned to this blog or the Anime Hell event page on Facebook for updates!
Stay safe out there everybody. Wash your hands, wear a mask, stay home.

Anime Hell returns to Anime North for two more hours of late Friday night fun in the ballroom in the TCC North building! Look for the water tower and bear right and follow your nose!

It May Be Anime Hell
It's May and that means Anime Hell is coming, or may be coming, to an anime convention near you!
First up is Ryan Gavigan and Anime Hell/Midnight Madness at Anime Central!
Anime Central's Hell Madness starts at 10pm in the Main Events - the Rosemont Ballroom - on Friday May 18!
Then - the very next Friday, May 25 - it's time for Anime North's own Anime Hell!

Yes, the mid-continent reels under the impact of these twin Hell assaults, barely days apart. Will humanity survive? Only time will tell.

Anime North 2017 Anime Hell 4U
Anime Hell returns to Anime North, and it also returns to the Plaza Ballroom at the International Plaza Hotel, because the Tories have the ballroom where we were last year and we can't kick 'em out as much as we'd like to, darn it. Anyway, it's a much shorter walk and a fine ballroom for us to go to Hell in - Friday at 10pm! Also at Anime North this year, Neil Nadelman will be bringing his Totally Lame Anime and Mike Toole is back for Dubs Time Forgot and some crazy Korean knockoff anime and gosh, who knows what else? If you've paid someone an outrageous amount to smuggle you and your family across the border, you cannot afford to miss Anime North's Anime Hell!

What's that happening in a little more than two weeks? Why, it's Anime North 2016, of course! 3-day and Saturday passes are sold out at this point but you can still get Friday and Sunday passes, and when you get your badge here's what you have waiting for you!
Yes, Friday night at 10 in the big ballroom in the Toronto Congress Center it's Anime Hell! Saturday night at 8 in the International Ballroom in the International Plaza Hotel it's Totally Lame Anime! And Sunday at 1 it's a trip back in time to take a look at Corn Pone Flicks' Bad American Dubbing!

Yeah it was cold outside - Friday night it got down to ZERO, welcome to May in Ontario, hope you brought a jacket - but Hell was in session at the North building of the TCC, with the finest bathrooms in convention-center-land and a capacity crowd of fans!
The crowd learned about dumb ways to die, met Mr. Bigot from the Yogi Bear show, got caught up with Lupin III, was taught traffic safety with Goku, saw some live-action Astro Boy, was told to "heat meat up" and "hold meat tight", said goodbye to Casey Kasem and Gary Owens, watched "Power Plant 33" from the Japan Animator Expo, was sold savings bonds from Batman, learned about how all anime animation and manga comics were actually child-porn tools for predators, saw the otaku seduction techniques of Blue Blazes and Gundam Build Fighters, and heard an amazing tale of fandom vengeance from the '80s. Shain live-tweeted from her control table, the tech staff kept the stereo in stereo, and overall, considering the change in venue and all the potential problems that could have happened, it was an amazing, almost flawless Hell for everyone. When it was all over, we distributed Timbits for strength and energy to make it through the cold darkness. Now it's spring again, thanks to Anime Hell!

As a special intermission treat we screened a very special moment from the fourth VIFAM OVA and the trailer for the second volume of YAMATO 2199. And then it was time for the 2010 SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO film, which lasted until 2:30 am and did not quite achieve the room-filling glory of Anime Hell. But it is a pretty long movie, and it was very late at night. See you next year!

Anime Hell Za Poppin'
May is Hell month. And that means we're whipping up a whole lot of Anime Hells.
May 25th is Hell Nite in Canada. Anime North in Toronto hosts David Merrill's Anime Hell, Friday at 10pm in the Plaza Ballroom.
Meanwhile on the same night at Animazement in Raleigh, Phil Lee will get you out of your seat for Anime Hell, Friday at 9:30pm in room 401A in the RCC. And if you can't get enough, There is a 2nd show the next night. It's an evening of classic clips at Retro Hell, Saturday, May 26th at 9:30pm in the Marriott Ballroom A-B.
The following weekend there's not one, but two big shows at Project A-Kon in Dallas. Saturday, June 2nd, start the evening with Otaku Hell at 10pm, followed by Ninja Hell at Midnight. Okay, technically it's not in May, but it's close enough, right?
