PONG [2001]

"The entire movie explained in the captions" Corn Pone Flicks combines a by-the-numbers heistsploitation fix with a retro video game chaser. And where is that Police Motorcycle, anyway?

Yes, the motorcycle is conspicuously absent. We tried to finagle a real bike, but it just never came together, and I ended up just pantomiming it in front of a blue screen. Though it's amazing just how much worse it looked before I added the police light, which appears to be coming from nowhere in particular.

You know, I didn't notice the missing motorcycle until the third or fourth viewing. Your editing hides it very well....

Its complete lack of being there hides it even better.

As an effect, though, it's still far superior to the shot of the van flying off the end of the bridge. Couldn't manage to wring the cheese out of that one.

The van flying off the bridge took me by surprise, I didn't see it coming. The beginning of that shot looks pretty real, it matches the van footage well, until it bounces of the concrete pillar. Still, I love the signs on the side of the van when Dave's selling the $500 pong system to Carol Ann...

but of course the gentle tinkling of the lullaby music is what makes that scene :D

The thing that was supposed to come across there, which may or may not, is that it's like an ice cream truck, with the music and the product displayed on the side. It was great fun driving the van around with those signs on the side, too. I personally love the fact that it lists steroids, which drug runners don't run, and Ecstasy, which wasn't even used in the '70s.
