Thanksgiving Toonage

Some thanksgiving tripe to spoil your day!

First, Buttons and Rusty uncover the origins of Thanksgiving and more in "The Turkey Caper".

Next, Tennessee Tuxedo sets the record straight to a certain kangaroo rat with the help of Mr. Whoopee's 3DBB

Now, onto a science fiction kick with a tale of one family's attempt at fitting in on a new planet in "Intergalactic Thanksgiving (or Please Don't Eat the Planet")

After that, a behemoth-chinned Jay Leno visits a small mountain town's school in the hopes of reminding children about what we should be thankful for on this day, with unsatisfied results...

Next, Johnny Hart's famous comic strip prepares for it's "First Thanksgiving"

And then, Jon Arbuckle's plans for a lovely dinner goes awry in this "Garfield minus Garfield" inspired vid.

And finally, a little story told by a squirrel about how the first Thanksgiving almost never happened, at least according to this Hanna-Barbera special...

There, I figured out how to make my posts short enough with that trick (since someone didn't explained it to me, I just wasn't sure what it did).

Ah! I never explained the cut! I'm sorry, I should have put something up about how that worked.

Don't worry, I figured it out at least.

I never knew about the B.C. special. The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn't wins for best rewriting of historical event. And amount of cheese.

Took me by surprised when I found it amongst my tapes back in the 90's thinking, I haven't seen it before (hardly any B.C. either since my newspaper didn't seem interested in picking it up at all).

At least far more than that Rankin-Bass special that tells it from a mouse's POV perhaps!

Aw man, that Rankin-Bass special looks like fun. I think I can just remember seeing it. Sony needs to put that on DVD.

We all wonder why stuff like this isn't out either. Apparently the guy who posted that YT clip bothered suggesting you e-mail this guy who is the main Rankin-Bass nerd extraordinaire to get a copy. Eh, but I guess that's the price we have to pay.

Doesn't seem too bad for including the McDonald's commercials too!

Oh and here's the ending song/credits too! Shows the best subcontracted work Toei Animation could pull off!

I like who the show features the talents of Paul Frees and June Foray, because, you know, they had twenty each.

I think Rankin/Bass had Paul Frees and June Foray on speed dial. They seem to be in all the Rankin/Bass animated shows.

It does seem like when it's not the occasional celebrity or Canadian voice talent they use every time (they certainly knew how to outsource these things perfectly in those pre-FedEx days), it's those two! I guess they were affordable at the time.

Off-topic, I reminded of noticing Hans Conried and June voiced in this little animated short they probably shoved at us back in school.
