Captain Future is still one of my favorites. I really wish they'd given it a chance over here. Once again, it's a hit in Latin America and all over Europe. And we get a couple episodes released to VHS.
I often think these ZIV productions could've landed on TV perfectly. Best I noticed was "Fables of the Green Forest" getting aired on some Canadian stations like TVOntario. Would've started that sudden influx of anime goodness far earlier for my generation.
Just heard a few days ago Toei is shopping Dr. Slump around (and Sailor Moon, but I'm staying with the 80's here). God I wish I could pick that up and see what the f__k to do about it! Hopefully if someone around here does, I hope they'll at least do a decent job on it.

True, Captain Future was also based on some books which would fit in perfectly if it might be an incentive to those viewers to read books or something! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Future
And that Little Lulu series wasn't bad either. I just found another of those tapes of two new episodes I should share, but someone on YouTube beat me to it!
Hi Chris Sobieniak! This is going to be my first post.
I am from Germany. I have not seen all of Captain Future and it was a long time ago. Today, in the year of 2010, I have read on Wikipedia that the German version was cut. What a shame...
Captain Future still has its charm. Thank you very much for the soundtrack + audiobook(?). Are there more of these? And who is the voice actor of the narrator in the introduction? Sounds like Mr. Mike Toole to me ; )
I really like the American theme song.
Have you already covered the German soundtrack or the German theme song on your blog? What do fans in America think of the German soundtrack?

It's amazing the things you find out sooner or later (like we had).

Pretty flattering to mention Mike Toole like that! I wish it were too. I really don't know who did what on these since that parts nearly a mystery anyway. These records were originally put out by ZIV International when they at one time had licensed this and several other Toei programs in the early 80's for possible distribution on televsion, but failed to find any potential broadcasters willing to take a chance on these programs and the best Americans ever saw any of these were in the form of minor VHS releases of a few scant episodes dubbed into English. Other such titles included Captain Harlock, Lunlun the Flower Child ("Angel"), Little Lulu and others.

Thank you for enjoying it. You might like to check out the one we had for Captain Harlock and see what you think... http://animehel.blogspot.com/2010/04/take-to-sky.html

I really don't know. There's also not quite as many Captain Future fans in the US as well that may've heard of it unless they didn't happen to catch it online as I have. I personally think the music is quite good for the German version myself, though I want to also check out the French version as well to see the differences (Capitaine Flam). I think the theme tune alone in the German dub is quite addictive and kept reminding me of action shows I watched back in the 80's in prime-time that had theme scores like that.
For anyone else that may like to listen to Captain Future theme songs in other tongues...
Apparently this was one scene excised from the German version that otherwise was seen in the English version anyway... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxdfqqvW_mY

Hell they could even get on cable TV if Nickelodeon was looking to pick up more stuff to show.
Oh well, so many dashed opportunities.

Dr. Slump was always better then Dragon Ball. At least I always felt that way. I hope they find a buyer.

Me too! I've got a VCD someone once sent me of a few episodes that were aired/subbed by Nippon Golden Network in Hawaii.
They also have the option of the 90's series if that one is a bit more accessible to use and not as dated.
Dude! Post those Lulus in the Dubs That Time Forgot forum! I'd love to see 'em.
The 90s series would have a better chance. The animation was better, at the very least.

It was (also bothered picking up a Cantonese VCD set of the first 20-some episodes).
