Soapy the Germ Fighter (1951)

Soapy the Germ Fighter is the story of Billy, a dirty little boy, who is visited in the night by a talking cake of soap called Soapy. It seems that Billy associates being clean with being a Sissy. Soapy reinforces the sissification by dressing and talking like a Shakespeareian fop, complete with tights and a poofy sleeved shirt. Soapy argues that it's manly to be clean and offers up uncomfortable images of Cowboys washing up. Is that a wedding ring on Soapy's hand? Is there a Mrs. Soapy? Yes, Soapy the Germ Fighter will make you want to wash, but only because you'll feel unclean after viewing it...

Funny we only get a few minutes of that film from the Google clip, but already I'm feeling terribly sick after seeing that tripe! I think I'm going to have nightmares about that character! He embodies all that I hate about the white Christian majority that ruled the mid-20th Century. :-)

Yeah, the Google clip ends before my favorite scene: the dog eating the girl's hair. While Soapy drones on about getting germs from animals all I can think is that it looks like it hurts.

Ewwww, why would a dog do that I wonder? (I'm reminded more of the usual scenario of a kid sharing an ice cream cone with their pooch)

Obvious! I guess that's one point to take from this film.

Being reminded AV Geeks' also got a crappy stop-motion film up there on dental care where a band of teeth or whatever get cavities from some devilish imp. If not for the corny story, it does try to give out a few points that haven't changed much over the years (even for a 70's flick).

Wonder if AV Geek's has a film I was subjected to in junior high from that period? I have that film in my collection, but it bugs me how laughable it was given the obvious 70's related nature of said film (afros, fashion, etc.).

Another relic of the 70's at the time of this nation's very important birthday!

I was planning on a post for 200 soon. It's one of those clips that I usually show at HELL. And it's just too visually wacky to pass up.

Nice to see you'd show that too! It's got some cool music (albeit, rather terribly distorted and not nearly as clear as I tried to make it sound via Goldwave).

Being reminded of my grade school days when they would leave that bicentennial flag up on the gym walls I used to see throughout the 80's (again, because schools used to know throw away too much stuff back then as they do today).
