I like fake cartoon bands. I admit, I can remember watching the grand daddy of fake cartoon bands The Archies belt out Sugar Sugar. Of course after Sugar Sugar became a number one hit staying on the top of the charts for 4 weeks everybody had to get into the act. Soon fake cartoon bands littered the saturday morning air waves. Josie and The Pussycats was my personal fav.
Which brings me to Jem. Although I liked the show it wasn't because of Jem. Nope, I was in The Misfit's camp. Why? Because Jem and The Holograms sang songs about things like reading is fun and old people don't suck. Pizzazz and the Misfits being cast as the bad guys didn't have to toe that party line. I guess their music is suppose to suggest that they're selfish mean girls. But the song I Am A Giant is an 80s synth-rock affirmation. A power ballad declaration of Grrl Power.
I I I I am
Gonna cut you down to size
I I I I am
Gonna make you realize
I I I I am
Like a comet on the rise
No one can top me
Nothing can stop me
I am twenty stories tall
I am a giant
Towering above it all
Strong and defiant
I am a giant
I I I I am
Not the kind who kids around
I I I I am
Gonna crush you to the ground
I I I I am
The music and the sound
Ain't here to play kid
Outta my way kid
I am twenty stories tall
I am a giant
Towering above it all
Strong and defiant
I am a giant
I I I I am
I am a giant
I I I I am
I am a giant
I I I I am
I am a giant
I am
I Am A Giant
I Am A Giant
I am.

If I ever bother seeing any of those dolls at all (and that would be a stretch since I'd have better luck on eBay than to go throughout town asking for them).
Speaking of which, a Goodwill location that had moved to a larger location had left some ignorant people bewildered over what to do with their junk once they came to the vacant store, they just drop their s__t out behind it expecting someone to come pick it up, which never happens! I don't know whether to laugh or be annoyed at this spectacle, especially when the Goodwill people went to the trouble to let the people know from posted flyers all over the storefront stating were they were going to be at which is a mile to the east. I guess reading isn't a requirement for the lower class. :-/
Speaking of literacy, I had to sign for a package delivered by FedEx that could've came yesterday but I was out, so I signed the usual sticker they leave on your door and got the package today when I got home. Guess what it was? An episode of "Battle of the Planets" on 16mm! Not planning to get anymore than that but I kinda wanted to get one on film anyway. One interesting thing I did notice in checking out the leader of the reel is seeing they labeled the episode as "#97", the title is 'Rockets Out Of Control", which was the fifth to last episode in BOTP (#81, of course the series wasn't meant to be run in chronological order), it just seemed amusing to me they would label these with the original episode numbers than the latter on these prints.
I'm curious if there's any Candy Candy 16mm out there. I guess I'll have to dig through ebay...
