Barbapappa

This was the only one I could find in English.

Really, the secret to learning Dutch is realizing how much Dutch you already know.

The kids, if you can call them that, are named

Barbazoo, yellow, male, lover of animals
Barbalala, green, female, lover of music
Barbalib, orange, female, lover of books
Barbabeau, black and furry, male, lover of art
Barbabelle, purple, female, lover of beauty
Barbabright, blue, male, lover of science
Barbabravo, red, male, lover of strength and heroism

I think these have been translated into just about every language.

I saw many of them in French as a kid, while spending time in Canada. It was either this, or Zoom the White Dolphin. You'd think with that kind of exposure, my French would be better than the occasional "Non touché pas, s'il vous plaît."

By the same respect, my German should be better than "Halten Verboten!"

I had these books as a kid, my favorite being the one on how they build their monolithic dome style house. It was a few years later that I discovered a shmoo.

I have a DVD worth of episodes in English for this show!

I'm still not sure if this ever aired over here or not. Looks like something I expect to see on Nickelodeon way back in the day myself! I once read somewhere "Bambi Meets Godzilla" creator Marv Newland worked on this show, but again, it was the 70's and I'm sure you get stuck working on stuff like this eventually!

I remember Nickelodeon playing a compilation movie based on episodes of "Zoom The White Dolphin" back on Special Delivery in the 80's! Saw there was even a VHS tape released of it but it's hard tracking down a cheap copy of it.

Another French animated series (albeit done in Japan by Eiken) was called "Il etait une fois... l'espace", though known in a TV compilation film as "Revenge of the Humanoids". Here's a Nick promo for that!

I might have to do better next time if I want to keep up!

Hey, don't forget "Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea". That used to come on right before "The Mysterious Cities of Gold".

Certainly! Nickelodeon back then was like the dumping ground for all these shows that would never get a shot on network or syndicated TV. I just can't picture anyone buying MCoG or Spartakus.

Wanted to link to the opening, but it looks like some corporate ham had to find it first!

Oops, responded under my pseudo/fake user here (Crow), but you'll know it's me!

Too often I think of what other cartoon would be great on Nick back then, I sorta think this would've been a cool show if they had picked it up...
